Jill is standing on a riverbank under a thicket of trees, with Eustace just beside her, looking dingy. Jill is aware that she has just arrived here from somewhere, and also that she's very damp.

They're in an amazing place -- there's a beautiful castle in front of them, and white marble quay, moored to which is a tall ship with banners flying. Just beside the ship, waiting to go aboard, is an old, frail man, clearly the King, richly dressed, with a thin circlet of gold around his head. Immediately in front of the King is an equally old, equally richly dressed, but healthier looking and much fatter dwarf in a wheeled chair pulled by a donkey. Those two are facing an assembled crowd of courtiers -- about one in five is human, but the rest are centaurs, fauns, Talking Beasts and so on.

Jill grabs Eustace's arm and tells him he has to look for an old friend and speak to him, because Aslan said so -- it's very urgent. He is being horribly disagreeable, and she doesn't remember why yet, but feels in the memory that it's sort of justifiable, even if she's angry. He tells her to shut up so he can hear the King's speech, so she does, but she can't understand much of it at all. The King then embarks and the ship departs.

Eustace starts to say something at this point, but is interrupted by the arrival of a giant, sleepy owl, who tells them that he noticed them fly in. Eustace says they were sent by Aslan. The Owl tells them that the King who just left was Caspian the Tenth, which makes Eustace go pretty green, but before he can say anything, the Owl leads them to the Dwarf, who is apparently deaf, the Lord Regent, and crotchety.

They have a very frustrating conversation which gets pretty much nowhere; Jill is on tenterhooks because she's trying to communicate something extremely important from Aslan, but can't. (Also, the Dwarf calls the owl Glimfeather.) Eventually they get across the fact that they're human, from another world, and sent by Aslan, and they are welcomed and sent away to the castle to be looked after.

* Eustace can be a real jerk when he wants to :c
* Everything seemed to be going wrong.
* What had Aslan sent them to do? Is this the same important thing that had to do with the Giant's City?
* omg Narnia +_+
* Caspian really was old... time really is weird as hell
