"And in the inquiry, all sorts of things about Experiment House came out, and about ten people got expelled. After that, the Head's friends saw that the head was no use as a Head, so they got her made an Inspector to interfere with other Heads. And when they found she wasn't much good even at that, they got her into Parliament where he lived happily ever after.
Eustace buried his fine clothes secretly one night on the school grounds, but Jill smuggled hers home and and wore them at a fancy-dress ball next holidays. And from that day forth things changed for the better at Experiment House, and it became quite a good school. And Jill and Eustace were always friends."
The fancy-dress ball itself is a separate memory. This is a montage of being at Experiment House as it begins to change. There are ups and downs, and Jill never really loves school, hence this being a neutral memory, but in general she becomes a lot more confident and mature over this period of time; nothing in England seems quite as daunting after her experiences in Narnia, and she's much less lonely. She and Eustace spend a lot of time together and get really comfortable being around one another.
